Programming Apco 25 NSW Digital GRN

As of Feburary 2011, the old Analogue GRN System was taken off line and replaced with the new APCO 25 Digital System.

Any frequencies, talkgroups , that worked in your analogue scanner, will no longer work. Must br programmed for NSW Digital GRN.

All new frequencies and Talk groups are now needed to listen, most important is a Digital capable scanner eg Uniden 396T/XT, 996t/XT or Pro 96 scanners.

1) Create a new system
– Click ‘System Editor’ then click ‘New’
– Type a system name, such as ‘NSW Digital GRN’ then from the ‘System Type’ dropbox select as ‘Motorola Type2/P25’

2) Add sites (or towers) to the system
– From the ‘System Editor’ click ‘TRUNK Option’
– In the dropbox next to Site Type (MOT Type2) select ‘P25’
– Add the details of the GRN site you want to listen to in the following fashion:
– Site name: Name of the site, eg ‘GRN-Site 148 GPT’
– Frequencies: Add the control channel frequency of the site only – no other frequencies are needed
– Band Plan: The digital GRN determines the band plan automatically, and there is no need to change any information here
– Other settings (such as threshold, hold time etc) can be changed at your discretion. I would suggest reading the manual first
– More sites can be added by clicking ‘New Site’ and repeating the above steps
– When you have finished adding your sites, close the ‘Site Settings’ window

3) Add talkgroups to the system
– From the ‘System Editor’, click on ‘Group Settings’
– Click ‘New Group’ and add a new group
– Click ‘New Channel’ to add a new talkgroup.
– Enter the ‘TGID Name’, eg ‘NSW AMBO Blue Mtns’
– Enter the ‘ID’ (talkgroup), eg ‘20309’
– Organise the groups and channels as you see fit. Up to a maximum of 250 channels can be added to each system
– When you have finished adding your sites, close the ‘Group Settings’ window

4) Select ID Scan or Search
– Click the ‘ID Scan/Search’ and select whether you want to hear all talkgroups on the site regardless of whether you have them programmed (‘Search’), or only talkgroups that you entered into the ‘Group Settings’ window (‘ID Scan’). I would initially recommend you select ‘Search’ so you can check that your system is working

5) Save the system and add it to a configuration, then upload it to your scanner
