Cirrus Crash Blue Mountains
On 10th May 2014 – A Cirrus SR 22 GTS aircraft encountered a mechanical fault while on a demo flight over Blue Mountains in NSW . Registration N802DK
2.10pm – the Cirrus released its BRS ( Ballistic Recovery System ) – due to the area of country aircraft was flying over – no available landing area – only safest option was to release chute for aircraft to descend safely and save all souls on board.
The aircraft came to rest on a fence in Sayers Street Lawson – Blue Mountains . All 3 people on board were all ok – only one person taken to Hospital with neck injury .
See photos below of the result and reasonably intact aircraft apart from tail – which I believe is under due stress from chute release.
These aircraft can retails anywhere from $400 k to $900 k pending model …
